Echoes in FIDOSTAT.NO will be returned to the FIDONET.NA list upon their
ELISTing by the moderator. We observe the echoes in which moderator
updates are listed and will restore FIDONET.NO listed echoes when the
update message appears. No other action is required.
FIDOSTAT.NA is a weekly information file accumulating these requests.
Requirements for listing were posted in ZEC, other echoes and in
FidoNews 911 (FNEWS911.LZH), March 16, 1992. Instructions for ELISTing
an echo are given in ELMOD0993.ZIP available from Mike Fuchs at 1:1/201
and many SDS sites.
Moderators requesting addition of their echo to the North American
Fidonet Echo Backbone should send message of application to "BACKBONE"
in the ZEC echo. (**Note that ELIST information (minus the password)
must be posted as part of this message. It is not satisfactory to
state that echo is ELISTed.) If you do not have access to the ZEC
echo ask your NEC or REC to post a copy of your message in the ZEC
echo, or send netmail to 1:290/627. ** Your reply will be the listing
in FIDOSTAT.NA. **
Echoes not attaining backbone status within one month of their listing
will be dropped. Moderators may request an extension of 4 weeks.
Applications to the backbone must include and demonstrate that
A.) There is sufficient traffic for inclusion (in general
25 or more messages per week),
B.) Number of nodes warrants backbone distribution (in
general 25 or more nodes)
C.) Seen-by's for purpose of demonstrating point B. and
showing cross regional distribution.
Applications not showing A, B and C will be considered incomplete
until the complete application includes that information.
Once an echo attains backbone status it becomes the responsibility of
the moderator to establish uplinks to the backbone via their NEC/REC/
HUB. Reasonable precautions should exercised to minimize dupe loops
while switching feeds to backbone distribution.
Direct questions to Dan Buda in the ZEC echo.

Each region is "normally" allowed 1 link to each star. Exceptions are
made with consent of the regions REC, ZEC, and the Star's stated ability
to handle additional load. Those connecting to the Stars are expected to
serve as Region level backbone hubs. No nets/nodes are serviced separate
from their ability and willingness to serve as a regional hub except on
a local basis. One last reminder, just because you see this list here,
does not mean that you should abrogate the responsibility to clear your
links via your respective REC.
